Our approach

The objective is to provide love and care for children who have been orphaned or abandoned and cannot be placed with family. Some children can be reunited after a while with family, while others are fostered or adopted. Other children grow up into young independent adults at Rehoboth.

Process

Rehoboth’s approach is designed as a holistic journey rather than a temporary fix. This structural framework guides a child from their most vulnerable state through to independence or family reunification via three distinct stages.

  • Stage 1: Inflow
The Inflow stage marks the beginning of a child’s journey into safety and care. Rehoboth opens its doors to the most vulnerable little ones, specifically children between the ages of 0 and 5 years old. These children are welcomed because they are in critical need, as they are infected or affected by HIV or AIDS, have been orphaned or abandoned, and have no extended family to look after them. This stage ensures that those without a support system find a home.
  • Stage 2: Process
The Process stage is a nurturing timeline designed to support a child’s growth from infancy through adulthood. It begins in the Children’s Village for ages 0 to 16, a rural haven where they receive their initial grounding. As they mature, they transition to Midway houses for ages 11 to 21 in rural or urban settings to learn life skills, and finally to the Rent a Room phase for ages 18 to 21 and older to practice independence. Throughout this journey, the hope is always for restoration. At the Children’s Village or Midway stages, children are lovingly reunited with their families whenever possible.
  • Stage 3: Outflow
The Outflow stage celebrates the positive outcomes of this long-term care. The goal is to see lives restored and potential fulfilled. This results in two outcomes. The first includes reunited children who are successfully returned to the embrace of their families. The second outcome produces mature role model adults who have completed the full program and step out into the world as independent, capable individuals ready to contribute to their communities.

Five way holistic approach

Rehoboth’s childcare has an integrated five-way holistic approach. The focus is on individual care for each child as every child is unique and has a different set of needs. Children are raised in family homes with a local housemother and a reliever who care for five children per house. The carer cares for the children as if they are their very own, giving an orphan a new loving family.

  • Spiritual
Daily life is grounded in Christian faith through morning devotions, Bible studies, and value-based upbringing. Children attend Christian schools and are guided by staff to grow with strong biblical morals.
  • Emotional
To help heal the trauma many children arrive with, we identify their specific needs and provide professional support. This includes psychotherapy, play therapy, art therapy, and occupational therapy to address emotional wounds and restore well-being.
  • Educational
We offer a tailored educational path to help every child reach their full potential. This ranges from on-site early childhood development and primary schooling to external high schools, tertiary education, or skills training.
  • Physical
Children are encouraged to lead active lives through swimming, running, and other sports. Our on-site facilities, including a swimming pool, multi-sports field, and jungle gyms, provide ample space for healthy development and play.
  • Medical
We ensure quality health management through regular check-ups and care at our on-site clinic. We are supported by the Murchison Hospital, and different Durban Hospitals which assists with specialized care, including the ART program.
