Rehoboth

Children's Village

Special needs teacher

Gifted special needs teacher needed to work with a few of our children. The special needs teacher will need experience in working with children who have special needs. The teacher would need to be skilled at implementing custom made curriculum and adapt teaching style to meet the individual educational needs of the students.

Requirements

  • Skilled in working with children with special needs
  • Committed Christian
  • English mother tongue or Fluent in English
  • Able to commit for a minimum of 6 months - 1 year

Time

In this volunteer role we need someone to commit to a minimum of 6 months, preferably 1 year. We cannot take anyone for a shorter time period than this, as there is a lot to learn in order to be effective in your work. We also want to protect these vulnerable children as they already struggle to form healthy attachments to people. Being at Rehoboth for a longer period of time, you can establish healthy attachment and bonding with the children. If you are able to come even longer, we would discuss that option during the application process. Please understand that any volunteer goes through an initial 3-month probation period which includes an evaluation after the first month.

A Heart for God and for Children

In this role, you are a qualified special needs teacher. It is important that you have a passion and love for children and have a desire to serve God by caring for and teaching children.

Driver's License

One of the biggest tasks that all volunteers do, is helping with transport of children (school activities, church, hospital appointments, sports practice, outings etc.). You need to have a valid driver’s license with at least one full year of driving experience, be able to drive a vehicle with a manual gearbox and feel confident to drive on the left side of the road. The conditions of the roads in South Africa require confident, experienced drivers. Unfortunately, we cannot take on volunteers who do not meet this requirement. Rehoboth is 20 minutes-drive out of town, and it places a burden on other members of the team to drive unlicensed volunteers for groceries and outings.
